CDC Meaning

CDC stands for College Development Council. It was introduced by University Grants Commission (UGC) in 1980.

CDC acts as an interfacing channel between colleges under UGC and UGC itself. Some of the functions performed by the CDC are-

  1. Implementation of plans prepared by UGC for the college’s welfare and progress.
  2. To inculcate innovative teaching methods in college based on practical learning
  3. Blends National Education Policy with inclusivity

Good quality teaching in colleges and implementation of UGC regulation help colleges attain funds from agencies and set brand image for the college through improvement in a ranking done by various methodologies like one adopted by The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF).

This has helped further improve academic governance in educational institutions as colleges tend to be more cautious towards the regulations made by UGC for the development of colleges. Vice-Chancellor acts as the Chairperson of the CDC.

The ex-officio members include the registrar, controller of examinations, librarian, director of sports or physical education, and director of CDC. Apart from them, there are 14 other members as prescribed by the UGC. This council acts as the nodal body to consider various aspects and domains within the functionality of colleges and School Analytics.
