Every year World Teachers’ Day or International Teachers’ Day is marked to reflect on issues concerning teachers and teaching. History of World Teachers’ Day
The first World Teachers’ Day was celebrated on October 5, 1966. In Paris, France, a Special Intergovernmental Conference on the Status of Teachers was held to examine concerns impacting teachers and their profession. The Conference finally agreed and concluded their study. As a result, they released a paper called “Recommendation Concerning the Status of Teachers,” signed by both ILO and UNESCO members.
World Teachers’ Day’s Importance
On World Teachers’ Day, teachers’ contributions to education and service are recognised. This day is an opportunity to address teaching issues and recognise teachers’ rights and duties. It’s an opportunity to think about the difficulties that teachers face.
Teacher’s Day in India
Teachers Day is observed in India on the birthday of a notable scholar and academician, Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. He was born in Thiruttani, Madras Presidency, British India, on September 5, 1888. (now in Tamil Nadu, India). On the date of his birthday, teachers are honoured and celebrated all over the country.
Dr Radhakrishnan’s students and friends asked him to let them celebrate his birthday, but he declined, saying, “Instead of celebrating my birthday individually, it would be a privilege if September 5 is marked as Teachers Day.” Hence, this is how the day was marked as a celebration and honour of teachers all over the country. learn more about School Analytics.
