Associate Degree

An Associate Degree is a two-year undergraduate academic qualification offered primarily by community colleges, junior colleges, and technical institutes. It provides foundational knowledge in a specific field and serves either as a standalone credential for entry-level jobs or as a stepping stone toward a bachelor’s degree.

Common types of associate degrees include:

  • Associate of Arts (AA) – Focused on humanities, social sciences, and liberal arts.
  • Associate of Science (AS) – Focused on mathematics, science, and technology-related fields.
  • Associate of Applied Science (AAS) – Career-oriented and designed for direct employment after graduation.

Students can transfer their associate degree credits to a university under 2+2 programs, completing the final two years for a bachelor’s degree.
