A biodiversity hotspot is a region with exceptionally high species richness—especially endemic species—that is under significant threat due to human activities. These areas are prioritized for global conservation efforts.

Hotspot Criteria

  • Must contain at least 1,500 endemic plant species
  • Must have lost at least 70% of its original habitat
