Mastery learning

An approach for instructing and educating students on a specific subject or area of interest is mastery learning. It is a process for reaching the intended result that is carried out step-by-step. According to mastery of learning, a learner must achieve expertise in the current topic before moving on to the next phase. Students are not required to study and are free to do so at their speed. Individual, group-based, or self-learning strategies can all be used.

This idea first appeared in American classrooms in the 1920s. It entailed students’ total commitment to mastering a subject and aid in enhancing instructional methods. When students do not master current topics, they are given more tutoring. When necessary, they are offered to counsel. Group talks are organized to select the focus areas. Students who have mastered the art of learning are better able to achieve their full potential.
