Archaeological sources

Archaeological sources or some of the artefacts play an important role in understanding the history of a particular region. There are different kinds of archaeological sources like inscriptions, monuments, artefacts, coins, pottery, literary sources, ornaments, food grains, and human remains, if any. All of these are studied under different branches and help us to understand and delve deep into every aspect of history. For example, the discovery of Ashokan edicts at different locations in India tells us about the history that prevailed during the time of Ashoka and the rules prevailing during that time

Archaeological sources come as amazing to people who get a sneak peek into history through the sources. On many occasions, the sources were misinterpreted and sometimes interpreted in multiple ways. Therefore, different aspects of history can prevail for the same period. Besides, excavating and exploring the sources are always cumbersome and require a lot of time and effort to decipher particular information. Sources are categorised as primary and secondary sources.

Generally, primary sources are more dependable and accurate as they give first-hand information about any period. However, secondary sources can have elements of personal bias as they may belong to somebody else interpreting a particular work. learn more about School Analytics.
