An online class is conducted through the Internet. They are delivered via various applications such as Google Classroom or Zoom, where students can see their course syllabus and academic progress, School Analytics, as well as interact with their classmates and course instructor. Online classes are typically self-paced, giving students more flexibility in finishing coursework.
Online classes can be both advantageous and disadvantageous. These classes can be considered advantageous because:
- Online classes are much less expensive than traditional learning. Parents are free to purchase uniforms or incur travel expenses, allowing them to save money.
- Online classes are time-saving as it does save a lot of time for travelling. A student can actually use up the time doing a lot of important tasks or assignments that could get invested in the journey from their homes to schools or colleges and again back home.
However, these classes provide a lot of disadvantages as well. They are:
- During online classes, a student might easily lose focus because virtual classes are conducted using phone or laptop devices, and students can easily switch to games, or videos, for entertainment. This completely diverts their attention away from their studies.
- Even though these classes were previously considered cheap, at the same they are expensive too. As for parents who don’t have jobs, it is difficult for them to provide their children with technologically advanced gadgets like smartphones, laptops, or tablets.
