Upward bound services

Upward Bound is a federally funded program that provides educational support and resources to low-income, first-generation college-bound students. The goal of the program is to increase the number of students from disadvantaged backgrounds who pursue a postsecondary education and earn a degree.

Upward Bound services typically include the following:

Academic advising and counseling: Students receive one-on-one support from program staff on topics such as college preparation, financial aid, and academic performance.

Tutoring and academic enrichment: Students participate in academic enrichment activities, including classes, workshops, and tutoring, to help them achieve their academic goals.

College visits and cultural events: Upward Bound programs often provide students with opportunities to visit college campuses, attend cultural events, and participate in other experiences that promote higher education.

College application and financial aid assistance: Upward Bound programs help students navigate the college application and financial aid process, including assisting with filling out applications and exploring scholarship opportunities.

Summer programs: Many Upward Bound programs offer summer residential programs, which provide students with an intensive, college-like experience, including college-level coursework and hands-on learning Management system opportunities.

Upward Bound services are designed to help students overcome the challenges and barriers that may prevent them from pursuing a postsecondary education, and to provide them with the support and resources they need to be successful. The program is designed to help students achieve their academic and personal goals, and to prepare them for success in college and beyond
