Formal education

Formal education refers to the systematic and continuous acquisition of knowledge and skills – usually at school, university or college.

For most of history, formal education was taught through a series of lectures, reading assignments, homework, and exams. This approach is useful because it allows students to develop their knowledge. In this way, students work to learn skills that will help them succeed in life. While there are many ways to get an education, it is important to remember that this learning style provides the skills and knowledge necessary for a successful life, both personally and professionally. The relevant national education authority or equivalent accredits formal education programs such as NCERT. Formal learning is often associated with “doing”. Learning objectives are set for students who participate in formal education activities. It can be as simple as reading an article or as complex as getting a Ph.D. The learning process is guided by certain standards that are tailored to the objectives. Finally, in formal education, students are motivated to succeed in obtaining a degree or certificate. India has a strong tradition of formal education. The level of education in India ranges from primary to secondary school, School Management System, followed by college and/or university education.
