Teaching students to recognize and understand their own emotional states: Students learn to identify which zone they are in, what emotions and behaviors are associated with that zone, and how to recognize when they are moving from one zone to another.
Developing strategies for regulating emotions and behaviors: Students learn specific strategies for managing their emotions and behaviors based on the zone they are in.
