The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) is an independent body within the Bihar state education department. It is a statutory body established by Section 3 of the Bihar School Examination Act of 1952 that reports to the Bihar Government. The primary function of the Bihar Education Board is to conduct Matric (Class 10) and Intermediate (Class 12) exams for all affiliated schools each year.
Aside from administering class 10 and 12 exams, the BSEB serves a variety of other functions. It was established with the goal of improving the quality of education in the state. The Bihar board is in charge of the following major functions:
- Matric and Inter examinations
- Conducting other departmental exams such as the Diploma in Physical Education, TET, and so on.
- Prescribing various study courses, syllabuses, and books
- Carrying out duties outlined in the Bihar School Examination Act
The Bihar State Government prescribes the BSEB syllabus for all classes. Science, Math, Social Science (History, Political Science, Geography, Economics), and English are among the subjects covered in Class 10. After Class 10, students have the option of enrolling in the Science, Digital Content, Commerce, or Arts streams. The board and the government decide on the syllabus for all subjects and streams.
