Purpose of Peace Education

Peace education aims to encourage a culture of peace in order to counteract a culture of war. It challenges the assumption that violence is inherent in the human condition and strives to equip students with the ability to resolve conflict peacefully. Peace education aims to prepare students to be responsible adults who are open to differences, capable of empathy and solidarity within and across borders and social groups, and who can deconstruct the fundamentals of violence and take action to advance the prospects of peace.

There are numerous approaches to peace education. Some programs emphasize the development of interpersonal and personal skills such as emotional understanding, anger management, empathy, cooperation, and generosity.
