What is CSIR NET

Its full form is the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research National Eligibility Test. The National Testing Agency (NTA) administers it on behalf of the Human Resource Development Group division of CSIR. The exam is held to determine a candidate’s eligibility for Junior Research Fellowship and Lecturer posts. In the field of Science and Technology, lecturers can only be hired if they clear this examination.

The CSIR NET examination is only held for five courses, as compared to  UGC NET, which includes approximately 82 disciplines. The CSIR NET exam syllabus includes technical disciplines. The CSIR NET covers issues in chemistry, earth,  planetary science, life and mathematical sciences.

Eligibility Criteria 

Age restrictions for JRFs are 28 years for general applicants and 31 years for reserved applicants. For assistant professors, there is no upper age limit specified by the CSIR.

Educational Qualification

For General candidates, at least 55% in Msc and for Reserved Candidates, it is a Minimum of at least 50%in Msc.
